School of Health Sciences

Health education programs help empower individuals and communities to live healthier lives by improving their physical, mental, emotional, and social health by increasing their knowledge and influencing their attitudes about caring for their well-being.


When it comes to building a healthy nation and community, the importance of health education cannot be overlooked. Community health workers collaborate with all stakeholders in a community – from its citizens to its government, education, and medical officials – to improve health and wellness and ensure equal access to healthcare.


The School of Health Sciences is dedicated to imparting knowledge for the advancement of humanity in the Discipline of Human Health and related sciences. The School of Health Sciences was established with the mandate to train holistic health professionals with knowledge and skills to handle the health needs of the Community. 


The School of Health Sciences is strategically repositioning itself to meet the market needs of the Nation. In February 2019 the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) accredited Kisii University to offer the MBChB program. At the same time, the board accredited the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital as the teaching facility for the School of Medicine. Consequently, We have admitted two cohorts for the MBChB program from both KUCCPS and Self Sponsored students. The School also received BSc. Nursing students -direct entry and currently we have also admitted two cohorts. 


Our programmes are recognized and approved by professional regulatory bodies’ i.e Pharmacy & Poisons Board, Nursing Council of Kenya, Clinical Officers Council, Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians Technologists’ Board, Public Health Officers and Technicians Council Kenya, Kenya Nutritionists, and Dieticians Institute, and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.


The University entered into a collaboration with Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital in 2010 for the purpose of teaching, training, consultancy, and research. Through this collaboration, the School of Health Sciences’ lecturers offers consultancy services both for in-patient and out-patient services at the Hospital. Through this collaboration, the county government of Kisii has managed to construct laboratories for Anatomy, Histology and Microbiology for Kisii University School of Health sciences. The County Government has also built an Ultra Modern Mortuary which will be used to train our students.
